Gill and Geoff Brann, Te Puke, Bay of Plenty branch

On the Brann's 240 ha drystock farm, initial plantings were for erosion control on light pumice soils, and riparian protection.Planting were on small areas of poorer quality land over time using family labour for planting and silviculture to keep manageable. High quality pine, cypress (inc. C.ovensii), blackwoods and redwoods are grown profitably thanks to good management, good access, and proximity to roads, markets and port. Riparian plantings for recreation and wildlife.
