Robert Johnston, Ashley Gorge Station, Central Canterbury branch

On this 1650-hectare hill country station trees were planted with catchment board subsidies in the 1970s, mainly shelterbelts to prevent soil erosion. Production forests came soon after, and native forests have been QE2 covenanted. Robert Johnston shows home-grown timber has been used for new flat on the property, including radiata framing, larch flooring, and a poplar bed.

"All forests have their place" on this property - for production, conservation, shelter, and a better living and working environment.
