Bill Wise, Balclutha, South Otago branch
Bill Wise has been planting trees for timber and shelter on his sheep and beef farm for 50 years on poorer, gorse-infested areas. He is now into the second rotation on many areas. He set up joint ventures with his children to add flexibility to operations. Bill has been a member of the South Otago branch of the NZFFA since its inception. Poplars on the flats are used for flood control, soil conservation and for fodder in droughts.
