Neil Cullen, Glen Omaru Valley, Balclutha, South Otago branch
Neil Cullen describes his award-winning farm which includes sheep and beef enterprises, plantation forestry and native forest. Neil stresses the importance of good planning for successful forestry ventures, particularly thinking about access and the timing and scale of forest plantings. 140 hectares are now planted in forestry on poorer land with little impact on stocking rate. The farm also benefits from shelter planting and riparian plantings. Bird life is prolific.
