Direct valuation of board widths
Three board widths to consider are 100mm (4"), 125mm (5") and 150mm (6"). Consider the prices for these per square metre.
Narrower solid timber floors tend to be "tighter", i.e. are less likely to have gaps between boards throughout all seasons.
Where floor boards are laid directly over joists, "Secret nails" should only be used in 100mm wide boards, not wider. Wider boards can be secret nailed if used as a glued overlay product.
