The photo shows two trees of the P. nigra × szechuanica clone NZ 91-029-007 on Hew McKellar’s farm.
I collected some cuttings winter 2023 to evaluate in the nursery. The trees have straight stems, with some stem fluting, and light branching. It has good late retention of leaves, with the photo taken in May 2023. A breast height outerwood increment core shows it has low to moderate wood basic density (table below).
