Eric Appleton – New Patron
NZFFA, New Zealand Tree Grower May 2022.
The NZFFA is delighted to announce that Eric Appleton has accepted an invitation to be Patron for the next five years. Eric is a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable plantsman well known to the membership and the wider tree planting community.
Eric was born in England and following forestry training in England and Germany he emigrated to New Zealand in 1956. His journey to New Zealand was an epic five-month 15,600-mile overland adventure on a 197 cc James motorcycle. On arrival he worked for the New Zealand Forest Service at Woodhill and Forest Research Institute, the latter mainly in the South Island.
In 1960 he moved to Wakefield and in 1968 started Appleton’s Tree Nursery which has since grown into one of New Zealand’s premier tree nurseries.
The NZFFA is looking forward to supporting Eric’s infectious enthusiasm as Patron over the next five years.
